Google tests a productivity helper that uses email

Google is testing a new AI-powered productivity assistant called CC, aimed at helping users manage their day through a daily email brief. The assistant is being rolled out as an experimental feature through Google Labs and is powered by Google’s Gemini AI model.

CC connects with a user’s Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Calendar to generate a daily email titled “Your Day Ahead.” The brief summarizes upcoming calendar events, highlights key tasks, and surfaces important updates from connected Google services, giving users an overview of their day in one place.

Beyond passive summaries, CC also supports two-way interaction. Users can reply to the email or message CC directly with requests such as adding items to to-do lists, saving notes, searching for information, or training the assistant to learn personal preferences over time.

At launch, CC is available only to AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in the U.S. and Canada who are 18 years or older. Google said the assistant currently works only with consumer Google accounts and does not support Workspace (business) accounts.

Google’s experiment enters a growing field of AI-powered email and briefing assistants. Sequoia-backed startup Mindy originally launched as an email-based assistant before shifting focus to creators and marketers. Meeting tools such as Read AI and Fireflies also deliver daily summaries, though they typically lack deep integration with email and cloud storage. Meanwhile, Huxe—an audio app built by former Google NotebookLM team members—offers daily briefings in podcast form using data from email, calendars, and news preferences.

With CC, Google is continuing to explore how AI assistants can streamline productivity by embedding themselves into familiar daily workflows like email.
