According to The Information, Anthropic is negotiating an AI joint venture with private equity groups

Artificial intelligence company Anthropic is reportedly in discussions with a group of private equity firms, including Blackstone and Hellman & Friedman, to create a joint venture focused on expanding the adoption of its AI technology, according to a report by The Information.

The proposed partnership would aim to sell Anthropic’s technology to companies owned or backed by the participating investment firms. The discussions were reported to be ongoing and involve plans to help portfolio companies integrate advanced artificial intelligence tools into their business operations.

If finalised, the joint venture would reportedly follow a model similar to that used by Palantir Technologies, offering consulting and implementation services to help businesses deploy Anthropic’s AI solutions. The initiative would focus particularly on integrating the company’s flagship AI systems into enterprise workflows.

Reuters said it could not immediately verify the report. Both Anthropic and Blackstone did not respond to requests for comment regarding the potential partnership.

The talks come amid an ongoing dispute between Anthropic and the U.S. government over restrictions on the military use of its artificial intelligence systems. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth previously described the company as a potential supply chain risk and ordered a ban on the use of its tools by the United States Department of Defense and its contractors.

According to The Information, this conflict temporarily slowed discussions about the joint venture but negotiations are continuing.

Earlier on Wednesday, Reuters reported that the Pentagon had informed senior leadership that the use of Anthropic’s AI tools — including its flagship system Claude AI — could continue beyond a previously announced six-month phase-out period if the technology is considered critical for national security operations.
