Capgemini is invited by the Andhra Pradesh government to establish an IT development center in Vizag

Nara Lokesh on Thursday invited global technology services company Capgemini to establish an IT development centre and a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Visakhapatnam, a move that could potentially create around 20,000 jobs.

Lokesh met Capgemini chief executive Aiman Ezzat in the port city and held discussions about possible investments and expansion opportunities in the state. According to an official release, the minister urged the company to expand its presence by setting up both an IT development centre and a GCC in Visakhapatnam, highlighting the city’s growing importance as a technology hub.

During the discussions, Lokesh encouraged Capgemini to establish service centres focusing on cloud services and the Business Process Management (BPM) vertical. He also invited the company to collaborate with universities across Andhra Pradesh as a co-development partner to build emerging technology laboratories. These labs would focus on areas such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, digital development and building a strong digital talent pipeline.

The minister further proposed that Capgemini set up a dedicated quantum technology vertical in the state and work with global technology partners to support enterprise customers in sectors including optimisation, financial services and sustainability. In addition, he invited the company to participate in the development of the proposed Quantum Valley initiative in Andhra Pradesh, which aims to build capabilities in advanced computing and research.

Responding to the proposal, Ezzat said the company would examine the opportunities presented by the Andhra Pradesh government. Capgemini currently employs about 3.4 lakh people globally, including around two lakh employees in India.

Lokesh also told Capgemini executives that Visakhapatnam is rapidly emerging as a major IT and data centre hub. He noted that work on a new data centre by Google is expected to begin soon in the city, which could further strengthen its digital infrastructure.

The minister added that connectivity in the region will also improve with the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport, which is expected to be inaugurated within the next three months, boosting the city’s investment potential and making it more attractive for global technology companies.
