Google Gboard Rambler Keeps Voice Editing Alive After Gemini Usage Limit
Google’s Gboard is expanding the possibilities of voice typing with Rambler, a Gemini-powered feature designed to turn natural speech into polished and properly formatted text. Unlike traditional dictation tools that generally expect users to speak in carefully structured sentences, Rambler is designed to understand more natural conversations and automatically improve the resulting text. Google has now provided additional information about what happens when users reach the feature’s usage limit, including which capabilities continue working offline and which require an internet connection.
Rambler is part of Gboard’s Gemini Intelligence features and is intended to make voice-based text input more flexible. Users can speak naturally without constantly stopping to add punctuation or correct sentence structure. The system can process spoken input and produce cleaner text by handling punctuation, capitalisation and other basic formatting automatically.
One of the notable aspects of Rambler is that reaching its usage limit does not completely disable the feature. According to Google’s clarification, Rambler switches to an offline mode once the applicable usage cap has been reached. This means users can continue using voice input even after the online Gemini-powered processing limit is exhausted.
The offline mode retains several useful capabilities. Rambler can continue processing spoken words, remove filler words and apply basic text improvements. Punctuation and capitalisation can also continue to be handled without requiring an active internet connection. However, offline processing does not provide access to every Rambler capability. More advanced text transformations depend on an internet connection and online processing. The distinction between online and offline functionality could make Rambler more practical for people who frequently use voice input. Rambler is designed to work wherever Gboard is supported, although its availability depends on compatible hardware, software versions and supported languages. The feature currently requires a Pixel 11 series device, the latest version of Gboard and microphone permission. Google is also supporting a broad range of languages, including English, Hindi, Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish, along with other supported Indian languages.
Another useful capability is the ability to switch between supported languages while speaking.
