Varun Sridhar, a former Paytm executive, becomes CEO of Aspora

Varun Sridhar, who left Paytm Services earlier this year, has joined Aspora, a fintech platform focused on financial services for the Indian diaspora. He announced the move on social media on Thursday.

Sridhar will serve as the CEO of Aspora’s wealth and lending business.

Sridhar said he was impressed by:

  • Aspora’s fast growth in the NRI remittance market

  • Strong backing from major investors like Sequoia Capital, Greylock Partners, and Hummingbird Ventures

Aspora is also supported by Y Combinator, Soma Capital, and Global Founders Capital.

Aspora’s Global Presence

Aspora currently operates in:

  • US, UK, UAE, Germany, Italy, Ireland

The company plans to expand to:

  • Saudi Arabia, France, Spain, Netherlands, Canada, and Singapore

What Aspora Says

“Aspora will benefit greatly from Varun’s experience in scaling fintech platforms and understanding cross-border financial needs,” said founder and CEO Parth Garg.
He added that Sridhar will help strengthen Aspora’s banking infrastructure as it grows into new markets.

Varun Sridhar’s Background

  • Resigned as CEO of Paytm Services in August 2024

  • Earlier served as CEO of Paytm Money, Paytm’s wealthtech arm

  • Previously worked at BNP Paribas, where he led the acquisition and integration of Sharekhan

  • Has nearly 8 years of experience at BNP before joining Paytm in 2020

  • Recently said he plans to build a wealthtech startup in Goa, though the idea is still developing
