At CES 2026, Google unveils new Gemini features for TV

Google Brings Gemini AI to Google TV With Smarter Search, Learning, and Voice Controls

Las Vegas, CES 2026: Google is expanding the role of artificial intelligence in home entertainment by bringing its Gemini AI to Google TV devices, aiming to make TV watching more intuitive, personalized, and interactive.

First introduced on Google TV in November, Gemini is now being showcased at CES 2026 with a range of new features designed specifically for large-screen experiences. The update will initially roll out to select TCL televisions before becoming available on more Google TV devices in the coming months.

With Gemini, users can interact with their TV using natural language. Viewers can ask for show or movie recommendations based on multiple people’s tastes, get plot recaps to catch up on a series, or even find content when they can’t remember the title but recall parts of the story or an actor. Questions like “What’s the new hospital drama everyone’s talking about?” can now be answered directly by the TV.

Beyond entertainment, Google is positioning the TV as a learning tool. When users ask educational questions, Gemini can provide narrated, interactive deep dives on the big screen, complete with visuals and follow-up prompts to explore topics in more detail. The interface adapts to each query, combining text, images, video context, and real-time updates such as sports scores when relevant.

Gemini also integrates with Google Photos, allowing users to search their personal photo and video libraries by people or moments. Users can apply AI-generated artistic styles and turn memories into cinematic slideshows directly on their TV.

One of the most practical new features is voice-based control of TV settings. Instead of navigating complex menus, users can simply say things like “the screen is too dim” or “I can’t hear the dialogue,” and Gemini will automatically adjust brightness, sound, or other relevant settings without interrupting playback.

Google says these Gemini features will require Google TV devices running Android TV OS 14 or higher, along with an internet connection and a Google account. Support will vary by device, language, and country at launch.

With Gemini for Google TV, Google is signaling a future where televisions are not just for watching content, but for learning, organizing memories, and interacting naturally
