TCS Nashik Case: Police Intensify Search for Nida Khan Over Alleged Forcible Conversion Role

Authorities have stepped up efforts to locate Nida Khan, an accused in the ongoing investigation involving alleged workplace harassment and forcible religious conversion at the Nashik unit of Tata Consultancy Services. The development follows a sessions court declining to grant her interim protection from arrest, with her anticipatory bail plea now scheduled for hearing on April 27, 2026. In the absence of any legal relief, law enforcement agencies have initiated an active search operation to apprehend her.

According to police officials, Nida Khan’s alleged involvement is linked to accusations of coercive religious conversion, forming a key part of the broader investigation into multiple complaints filed by women employees. She has been named as one of the accused in at least one of the nine FIRs registered in connection with the case. Officials indicated that she has been absconding since the matter came to light, prompting the formation of multiple police teams tasked with tracking her across different locations.

The case itself has drawn attention due to the serious nature of allegations, which include sexual harassment, mental harassment, attempts at forced religious conversion, and actions said to have hurt religious sentiments. Investigators have confirmed that eight individuals have been arrested so far, while efforts continue to identify and locate other accused persons linked to the incidents.

The complaints reportedly involve women employees, mostly in the age group of 21 to 30 years, working at entry or associate levels with relatively modest salaries. Authorities suggest that the victims come from middle-class backgrounds, adding to concerns about vulnerability in workplace environments. While no new complainants have emerged in recent days, officials have stated that further action will be taken if additional victims come forward.

Details emerging from one of the FIRs indicate that the primary accused allegedly introduced the complainant to a group of associates, including Nida Khan, where conversations reportedly involved derogatory remarks about certain religious beliefs and practices. These interactions, as per the complaint, were allegedly aimed at influencing or provoking the victim, forming part of the broader allegations under investigation.

The case has also raised questions about the effectiveness of internal workplace mechanisms designed to address harassment complaints. Officials noted that there may have been limitations in how the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) committee functioned at the workplace. Concerns were highlighted regarding the lack of local representation in the committee and its reliance on virtual meetings rather than in-person interactions.

Authorities have suggested that for such committees to function effectively, they should include local members who are more accessible and familiar with the working environment. Regular in-person meetings, rather than infrequent virtual sessions, were also recommended to ensure timely intervention and better support for employees facing grievances.

A Special Investigation Team has been constituted to handle the case comprehensively, examining all nine FIRs and coordinating efforts to ensure a thorough probe. The investigation spans multiple aspects, including workplace conduct, possible coercion, and compliance with legal and corporate governance norms.

The company at the centre of the case has reiterated its long-standing stance of zero tolerance towards any form of harassment or coercion in the workplace. It has also taken internal action by suspending employees allegedly involved in the incidents. At the same time, the company clarified that it had not received formal complaints through its internal grievance redressal channels prior to the matter becoming public.

As the investigation progresses, the case is likely to have broader implications for workplace policies, employee safety frameworks, and corporate accountability in India’s IT sector. It also underscores the importance of robust internal mechanisms and proactive intervention in addressing sensitive issues within professional environments.

The outcome of the legal proceedings and ongoing investigation will be closely watched, as authorities continue their efforts to locate the accused and ensure that due process is followed in addressing the serious allegations raised in this case.
