Senior employees are instructed by Infosys to report to work four days a week

Infosys has asked more employees to work from the office at least four days a week as part of its hybrid work policy. The new rule now applies to employees at job level 6A and above in certain units, according to internal emails sent by the HR team.

Earlier, the four-day work-from-office requirement was mainly for employees at job level 7 and above, including delivery managers, senior managers, and programme directors. With the new guideline, it has been extended to employees in the JL6+ category, suggesting that the company may gradually expand the rule to more employee levels.

The email stated that employees at JL6+ must be in the office four days each week. It also mentioned that some employees have not met the required 10 days of office attendance per month, and HR managers will review monthly return-to-office data.

The move is part of several steps taken by Infosys to increase office attendance. In January, the company introduced additional conditions for employees who want to claim extra work-from-home days. The company says it continues to follow a hybrid work model aimed at improving collaboration, innovation, and business performance.

Infosys uses a job level system where each level has two sub-levels, A and B. Employees in level A move to the next job level when they are promoted. Some employees said that although they were earlier free to choose any 10 days in a month to work from the office, recent instructions require them to spread those visits across all four weeks.

Managers also said it can be difficult to encourage junior employees to come to the office regularly if senior leaders themselves do not follow the same pattern.

Earlier this year, CEO Salil Parekh said there had been no change in the company’s overall hybrid work approach.

Other IT companies have also tightened office attendance policies. Wipro introduced a rule in early 2026 requiring employees to work from the office three days a week with at least six hours per day. Tata Consultancy Services has implemented a five-day office work policy and linked variable pay to employee attendance.

According to Anil Ethanur from staffing firm Xpheno, many companies initially saw higher productivity during remote work, but maintaining those gains over the long term has been challenging. As businesses adopt AI and automation and face tighter market conditions, they are focusing more on efficiency and closer collaboration among teams.
