Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft, is "thrilled about data center capacity coming up in India

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said the company’s massive new investment plan shows how quickly India is progressing in the technology era. His statement came a day after announcing a $17.5 billion investment to support India’s AI-driven future.

During a Microsoft event in New Delhi, Nadella said he is excited about the new data centres coming up across India. Microsoft already has cloud regions in Pune, Chennai, and Mumbai, and a new India South Central region in Hyderabad is expected to go live by mid-2026.

Nadella also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday to discuss the company’s long-term plans in the country.

He said India is moving fast in adopting advanced technologies and has created a strong ecosystem through government policies, digital programs, and a growing market. According to him, countries that quickly adopt new technology—not just create it—are the ones that leap ahead.

As India prepares to implement the Digital Personal Data Protection rules, Microsoft has launched sovereign public cloud and sovereign private cloud services to help customers manage data securely within the country.

Nadella added that while sovereign technology is important for India’s security, using public cloud services can sometimes be the safest option against cyber threats.
