KLA creates a Rs 300 crore R&D and innovation facility to increase its presence in India
KLA Opens ₹300-Crore R&D and Innovation Hub in Chennai
KLA Corporation on Wednesday announced the inauguration of its new ₹300-crore research and development (R&D) and innovation hub in Chennai, marking a significant expansion of its presence in India.
The American wafer fabrication equipment maker’s move follows discussions with the Tamil Nadu government, which were first reported earlier in November. The newly opened facility spans 311,000 square feet and has been designed to accommodate up to 1,300 employees.
According to the company, the centre will strengthen its regional artificial intelligence and software development capabilities, while enhancing collaboration across R&D, engineering, and product support functions.
“Over the past two decades, KLA has grown steadily in India, building a strong foundation in software engineering, AI, and innovation,” said Dominic David, President, KLA India. “The new facility enables our teams to scale with purpose, driving innovation, fostering employee wellbeing, and strengthening our global programmes with efficiency and impact.”
David added that the investment underscores KLA’s long-term commitment to developing local talent, advancing R&D collaboration, and supporting India’s ambition to emerge as a major player in the global semiconductor ecosystem.
Welcoming the development, Amitesh Kumar Sinha, Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and CEO of the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), said KLA’s expansion reflects the growing momentum of India’s semiconductor ecosystem. “Investments like these strengthen industry–government collaboration, accelerate advanced R&D, and support the vision of the ISM to establish India as a trusted global partner in the semiconductor supply chain,” he said.
KLA has been operating in India since 2004 and said it has built its regional presence into an AI and engineering centre of excellence over the years.
