In the race for AI memory chips, the CEO of AMD and Samsung will meet in South Korea, according to a report

Chief executive of Advanced Micro Devices, Lisa Su, is expected to visit South Korea next week where she will hold discussions with key industry leaders, including Jay Y. Lee, to explore cooperation in securing supplies of high-bandwidth memory used in artificial intelligence chipsets.

According to a report by the Maeil Business Newspaper citing industry sources, Su is scheduled to travel to South Korea on March 18. During the visit, she plans to meet major partners such as Lee and Choi Soo-yeon, the chief executive of Naver. Naver confirmed that a meeting between its CEO and AMD representatives has been scheduled, though the company declined to disclose specific details of the agenda. Samsung Electronics did not comment on the reported meeting.

The discussions come at a time when global demand for advanced memory chips is surging. Technologies such as high-bandwidth memory (HBM), DRAM and NAND have become critical components for artificial intelligence computing. These memory solutions are widely used by major chip designers including Nvidia and AMD as companies race to build powerful data centres capable of supporting large-scale AI systems.

Su’s talks with Samsung’s chairman are expected to focus primarily on securing stable supplies of high-bandwidth memory, which has become a crucial component for next-generation AI accelerators and data-centre processors. The rapid expansion of artificial intelligence infrastructure globally has intensified competition among technology companies for advanced semiconductor components.

In addition to discussions with Samsung, Su is also expected to explore broader collaboration with Naver, South Korea’s largest internet portal and search engine provider. Potential areas of cooperation may include expanding semiconductor supply for data centres, developing sovereign AI infrastructure and working together on next-generation computing technologies.

Her visit is expected to coincide with the week of Nvidia GTC, the annual developer conference hosted by Nvidia, which is scheduled to take place from March 16 to 19 in San Jose in the US state of California. The event typically brings together global technology leaders to discuss the latest advancements in artificial intelligence, data-centre computing and semiconductor innovation.
