Cognizant is investing Rs 1,583 crore to build an 8,000-seat campus in Vizag

IT services company Cognizant on Friday held the groundbreaking ceremony for its new 8,000-seat campus in Visakhapatnam, marking a major expansion in India. The event was attended by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

The campus will be built at Kapuluppada in IT Hills and will be developed in three phases by 2033, with a total investment of ₹1,583 crore. The Chief Minister said the project will create high-quality jobs, boost digital capabilities, and support the state’s technology-led growth.

Construction of the first phase will begin in 2026 and is expected to be completed by early 2029, accommodating 3,000 employees. The remaining phases will gradually expand the capacity to 8,000 seats.

Cognizant plans to start operations in Visakhapatnam by early 2026 from a temporary office that can house about 800 employees, until the main campus is ready.

The move is part of Cognizant’s strategy to expand into Tier-2 cities, after setting up centres in Bhubaneswar, Indore, and GIFT City.

Cognizant CEO Ravi Kumar S said the new campus reflects the company’s confidence in Visakhapatnam’s talent and future growth. Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh said Cognizant’s entry is a key step in making the city a major technology hub.
