Amazon will spend an extra $21 billion on data centers and artificial intelligence in Spain
Madrid: Amazon said on Monday it will invest an additional €18 billion ($21 billion) in Spain to expand its data centre infrastructure and accelerate artificial intelligence innovation, taking its total investment in the country to €33.7 billion.
The fresh investment will be directed toward scaling up the company’s cloud computing arm, Amazon Web Services (AWS), strengthening Spain’s position as a key digital hub in southern Europe.
Amazon said the expansion will support growing demand for cloud services and AI capabilities from businesses and public sector organisations, while also contributing to job creation and local economic development.
The announcement underscores Big Tech’s continued push to build AI-ready infrastructure across Europe, as governments compete to attract large-scale data centre investments amid rising demand for advanced computing power.
